SUMMARY

The proposed article presents a comprehensive linguistic analysis of structural and semantic transformations of the phraseological fund in contemporary prose works by prominent Ukrainian women writers. The research focuses on identifying mechanisms by which established linguistic units acquire new contextual meanings under the influence of individual authorial vision. The work systematizes in detail the most common types of modifications used in contemporary female artistic discourse. In particular, the specifics of the use of component inversion, lexical expansion of the structure of idioms, elliptical reduction, as well as complete or partial deformation of the lexical composition of phraseology are revealed. A special emphasis is placed on the research and study of complex combined transformations that combine several levels of change simultaneously. It is determined that the author's update of phraseology is due to the desire of writers to deautomatize reader perception and enhance the pragmatic impact of works. Modified constructions in modern women's prose perform a number of key functions: from creating a specific stylistic coloring to deeply revealing the psychological subtext of the narrative. It is proven that through rethinking traditional language formulas, authors adapt phraseology to current socio-cultural conditions, giving their works a special emotional richness and intellectual fullness. It is established that transformational processes in the field of phraseology are not only a stylistic technique, but also a powerful tool of selfexpression, allowing to form a unique linguistic picture of the world. The authors prove that it is through the creative processing of idioms that the individualization of artistic speech occurs, which makes women's prose an expressive phenomenon of modern Ukrainian literature.

SUMMARY

The relevance of the study is driven by the transformational processes in the field of professional communication within law enforcement agencies and the need for proper linguo-pragmatic, regulatory, and socio-cultural conceptualization of police discourse in the context of globalization. Despite the existence of individual linguistic studies, a number of issues related to the verbal implementation of power, conflict de-escalation strategies, terminological unification, and ethical standards of police communication with citizens in English, German, and Ukrainianspeaking environments require additional scientific analysis from a comparative linguistic perspective. The aim of the article is to investigate the structural, semantic, pragmatic, and legal features of police discourse in Ukraine and selected foreign countries (the UK, the USA, and Germany) to formulate grounded proposals for improving the professional training and speech culture of national police personnel. The study employs formal-legal, comparativetypological, discourse-analytical, logical-semantic methods, and the method of contextual interpretation. As a result of the study, it was established that the linguo-legal basis of police discourse in Ukraine is formed by the provisions of specialized legislation and departmental regulations, which define speech etiquette and communication algorithms during the performance of official duties. It was revealed that the Ukrainian model is characterized by a transition from imperative-directive to service-oriented speech strategies, which leads to changes in the lexical content of the discourse and the emergence of new communicative clichés. It was proven that the pragmatic basis of police discourse in the English language relies significantly on precedent speech acts and standardized warning formulas, which enhances the legal significance of verbal interaction. It was found that German police discourse is distinguished by a high degree of nominalization and terminological precision, ensuring objectivity in recording offenses in procedural documentation. Comparative analysis showed that in Anglo-American and German traditions, police discourse is combined with well-developed mechanisms of linguistic expertise of law enforcement speech, transparency of communicative scenarios, and a clear distinction between official and operational speech styles. It was substantiated that Ukrainian police discourse generally develops in line with Western democratic standards (“Community Policing”), yet requires further lexicographic processing and harmonization with international standards of professional communication. The practical value of the work lies in clarifying the linguopragmatic nature of police discourse, identifying its key cognitivediscursive characteristics, and determining elements of foreign linguistic experience that are significant for increasing the efficiency of law enforcement activities, ensuring human rights during communication, and forming a positive image of the police in Ukrainian society.

SUMMARY

The article presents a contrastive analysis of the features of syntactic relations as realized in Ukrainian literary texts and their translations. The research material comprises Ukrainian literary works of the nineteenth century belonging to different genres, namely P. Kulish’s novel «The Black Council» and T. Shevchenko’s poems «Haidamaky» and «Hamalija», as well as their English translations. The relevance of the study is determined by the need for an in-depth examination of the syntactic organization of literary texts in connection with issues of interlingual interpretation and translation equivalence. Moreover, scholars have not previously addressed a contrastive analysis of the syntactic structure of historical literary works and their English translation interpretations. The main focus is placed on the analysis of types of syntactic relations (coordination, subordination, and asyndetic connection), the specificity of their formal-grammatical and semantic-pragmatic expression, as well as the role of syntactic constructions in creating imagery and expressiveness in literary discourse. The study establishes that Ukrainian literary discourse is characterized by variability of syntactic structures, active use of asyndetic connection, inversion, parcellation, and rhythmized constructions, which is обусловлено by the traditions of national poetics and the folkloric foundation of the texts. In contrast, English translations of Ukrainian literary texts demonstrate a tendency toward greater syntactic orderliness, explicit expression of logical-semantic relations, and a predominance of subordinate constructions. Considerable attention is paid to translation transformations, in particular grammatical substitution, sentence segmentation, and sentence integration, which are employed to preserve the stylistic dominant and pragmatic potential of the source text. The contrastive analysis proves that differences in the realization of syntactic relations are conditioned by the typological features of the languages, the cultural-historical context, and the specificity of artistic thinking.

Key words: syntactic relations, complex sentence, literary discourse, contrastive analysis, coordination, subordination, asyndetic connection.

SUMMARY

The article, drawing on a wealth of linguistic material, explores Slavic phraseological units that reflect the symbolics of kalach. The powerful cultural symbolics of kalach as an archaic cultural symbol, clearly represented in Slavic phraseology, is described. The author concludes that the sacred symbolics of kalach, fixed mainly by regional phraseology, its protective and productive functions, and its exceptionally important role in baptismal and wedding rituals, has a deep mythodological basis and is assosiated with the cult of the sun – an ancient sacred symbol, a source of life-given force, sublimity and happiness, the round shape of wich is encoded in such symbols established in folk culture as the kalach, korovay, vinok, wedding ring and others. That is why in Slavic phraseology, the kalach appears as a symbol of abundance, well-being and good fortune. The functional role of kalach, its ontological properties are understood in Slavic phraseology within the framework of semiotic oppositions and highlight various aspects of the human personality, life experience, etc. Kalach appears in the center of a number of prescriptions established in culture. The vivid and multifaceted representation of kalach in Slavic phraseology, primarily Russian, Ukrainian and Bulgarian, indicates the exceptional cultural load of this term, placing it in the category of powerful cultural symbols. In the process of research, a rich phraseological material was involved, the methodology of ethnolinguistic and cultural analysis, semiotic analysis, the method of structural and semantic modeling and the substitution technique were applied.

Key words: Slavic phraseology, cultural symbol, mythological background, semiotic opposition, cultural prescription, conceptual metaphor, Slavic cultural tradition.

SUMMARY

The paper aims to address the phenomenon of the typology of lexical meaning evolution in the Indo-European languages. Particularly, it is about a significant group of semantically monotypic lexemes (nouns and adjectives), which regularly develop the meaning ʻignorantʼ, whereby demonstrating same semantic shift. The criterion of “sameness” implies that not only the secondary sememes ʻignorantʼ, ʻuneducated person’ should be identical in the analyzed sum of synonyms, but also their original meanings ʻrudeʼ, ʻroughʼ, ʻuncouthʼ, ʻunknownʼ, ʻunfamiliarʼ; and such correlation in the pair “original sememe” : “second sememe” must be traceable in all languages, used in the liguistic analysis. Thus, the results of this study testify about typicality of the above mentioned semantic shift, that can be modeled by determining (a) the initial and the final stages of the semantic change; (b) the same vector of the semantic evolution of the synonymous words; (c) diachronic reproducibility of the model of the semantic change in the different periods of the separate languages history.

Key words: semantics, model of the semantic development, caritive, privative, prefix.

SUMMARY

The purpose of the article is to analyze the materials collected in the Odesa Literary Museum regarding the stay in Odesa and the Northern Black Sea Region of authoritative Polish literary figures of the late 18th and 19th centuries, their assessments of the city and its inhabitants, and the role of Odesa in the life and work of these cultural figures. The object of study is part of the museum’s exposition and some rare materials from the museum’s collections, which relate to the life and work in Odesa of writers of the 19th century who left a noticeable mark on Polish literature and history. The subject of the study is the place and role of Odesa and the Northern Black Sea Region in the work of these writers. As a result of the conducted research, certain assessments were made of the participation of Adam Mickiewicz, Franciszek Malewski, Juliusz Słowacki, Alexander Jełowicki, Józef Kraszewski, as well as a number of other Polish writers, including Stanisław Trembecki, Henryk Rzewuski, Tadeusz Czacki, Zygmunt Miłkowski (Tomasz Jeż), Michał Grabowski, Seweryn Goszczyński, Bohdan Zaleski, Maurycy Gosławski, Gustaw Olizar, Tomasz Padurra, Henryk Sienkiewicz in the cultural and social life of the city of Odesa and the Odesa region. Some facts of the influence of their stay in Odessa on the work of these writers were revealed. Rare printed exhibits from the museum’s collection were indicated. The conclusions are drawn that the international business and resort Odesa has in some way influenced the life and work of many public and cultural figures of the Polish people, helping them to expand their knowledge in science, economics, history, and social life. The practice of developing literary local history has considerable educational value in the assessment by the residents of the region of its cultural and historical significance in the life of the country.

SUMMARY

The article examines the phenomenon of ekphrasis in English- language dream reports, drawing on a cognitive approach to intermediality and the verbal representation of visual experience. Based on a corpus of over 60,000 user-generated dream reports from dreamjournal.net (over 22 million words), the study traces how features of artistic ekphrasis, typically associated with literary discourse, emerge and are reinterpreted within the specific context of dream narration. The paper introduces the concept of oneiric ekphrasis—a verbal representation of relatively static visual dream images perceived by the dreamer as aesthetic or art-like. Using a corpus-based methodology, the study identifies patterns of linguistic realization and classifies the main types of such descriptions. Concordance analysis of the lemma ‘painting’ yielded four main categories of oneiric ekphrasis: static and dynamic, as well as visual and synesthetic. The findings reveal characteristic cognitive tendencies, including the instability and fluidity of visual imagery, narrator metareflection, intermedial blending of modalities, and reliance on cultural precedents. Ekphrasis in dream narratives is thus interpreted as a cognitive operation of recoding internal visual representations into verbal form, extending the traditional understanding of ekphrasis from a depiction of an artistic object to a mode of thinking and imagining. It is concluded that dreams, due to their high visual and emotional intensity, often generate narrations that resemble aesthetic or artistic descriptions, where the dreamer acts not only as a storyteller but also as an intermedial translator and interpreter of their own imaginative experience.

SUMMARY

The article examines the features of English phraseological units in the legal sphere of use. It also analyzes the functioning of phraseological units in legal English, their stability and variability.
The aim of the study is to analyze some phraseological units used in the field of legal discourse. At this stage, our task is to prove the presence of expressive coloring in formalized legal English.
The study used the method of linguistic description of phraseological units, including the methods of observation, interpretation and generalization, as well as methods of analysis of dictionary definitions of phraseological units and methods of structural- semantic, component, contextual analysis. To identify the meaning of phraseological units in legal discourse that is actualized in the process of communication was used the method of functional and discursive analysis. As a result of the study, we came to the conclusion that phraseological units in the legal discourse of the English language reflect cultural traditions, history, and attitudes toward the law among representatives of the Anglo- Saxon culture. In legal discourse, phraseological units perform the function of an intermediary between communicants. Phraseological units are an integral part of legal discourse and represent further study from the point of view of discursive, cognitive, semantic, and pragmatic approaches. Further study of phraseological units of legal discourse is of interest from the point of view of improving mutual understanding between communicants from different cultural and legal systems. The study of territorial and historical variability of phraseological units is the result of linguo-legal processes and can rightfully take its place among linguocultural studies.

SUMMARY

The mechanisms of intonation models variation while interpreting attitudes in English are under discussion. A complex analysis of attitudinal intonation patterns polysemy from the point of view of its semantics and functions has been carried out.
The phenomena of polysemy, synonymy, antonymy, etc. are analyzed in intonation means expressing modal meaning. This characteristic, typical to lexical units of the language, is the evidence of the isomorphism different means of speech. The parallelism is not regarded as a complete analogy in the degree of correlation of vocabulary and intonation with semantics. The nature of correlation in these two cases is fundamentally different in quality and quantity.
Firstly, the lexeme in itself, nominally within the framework of a given language system, carries information about the semiological unit it describes, and often serves as the formal name of this unit. The intoneme does not carry nominal information about
the semiological unit; this connection can only be expressed indirectly
with the help of lexical means.
Secondly, the degree of study of the relationship between lexical and semiological units, on the one hand (exhaustively complete dictionaries reflecting different aspects of these connections), and between intonation and semiological units, on the other (fragmentary, unsystematized and often contradictory data on the semantic information of individual intonation models, regardless of the constitutive conditions of their functioning), is incommensurate.
Thirdly, the lexeme in speech is realized with the help of segmental means of the phonological system, and the variability of suprasegmental means does not affect the semantics of these units.
Intonation units are formed due to contrasts of suprasegmental means and their variability determines the semantics of intonemes.

Key words: attitudes, intonation, variation, polyfunctionality, polysemy.
