Key words: literary text, literary translation, strategies, tactics, operations.

The research is dedicated to the study of peculiarities of literary texts and the means of their interpreting when translating from Chinese into Ukrainian and English. The tactics of pragmatic adaptation of the text, preserving the regional flavor of the original text, and recreating the stylistic peculiarities of the original text are thoroughly studied in the article. The use of operations employed in the process of literary translation within the strategy of communicative translation are regarded.

The article shows the syntactical differences between Ukrainian and English that provoke complications in translation. Common features and specific characteristics of theme and rheme relations at the syntactic level during translation from English into Ukrainian are found out.

Key words: scientific and technical translation, terms, a sublanguage of Computer Technology, the communicatively relevant cognitive information

The article is devoted to the specificity of translating terms from scientific and technical articles on Computer Technology from Ukrainian into English. The results of the paper discover that the most frequent translation operation is a corresponding term. Less frequent transformations are concretization and generalization. The translator’s goal is to produce a target text that would convey the same information as conveyed by the ST; the amount of the communicatively relevant information in the TT must be the same as in the ST. If the goal is achieved, the communicative effect produced by the TT is equal to that of the ST.

The article deals with the specifics of rendering grammatical peculiarities of Ukrainian scientific literature into English. The results of the paper discover that changes in the structure of the translated variant in comparison to the source language are made according to the norms of the target language. The most frequent transformations are substitution of grammatical category and sentence structure, transpositions. Less frequent transformations are word-for-word translation, partioning and integration of sentences.

The article presents the results of the research of strategies. tactics and operations used in a communicatively equivalent translation of a Chinese traditional medical discourse into English and Ukrainian. The main principles applied while translating a Chinese medical discourse are described. One of the key points of the research was the necessity to use a complex techniques, i.e. philosophical approach, medical and linguistic analysis while treating the translation process of a traditional Chinese medical discourse and regarding the peculiarities of terminology interpretation.

The article is devoted to the study of the Chinese military discourse — its peculiarities and their adequate reproduction by means of the Ukrainian language. The communicatively standardized specificity of the Chinese military discourse is represented in the article: some approaches to the study of military discourse as well as linguocultural means enabling the interpretation of the Chinese original (the military treatise “The Art of War” written by Sun Tzu) are analysed; the selection of linguistic means facilitating adequate reproduction of the Chinese military discourse in the Ukrainian language are substantiated.

The article studies the role, the relationship and mutual influence of extralinguistic factors on speech under the circumstances of the bilateral consecutive interpretation from the Ukrainian language into English and vice versa. The main extralinguistic factors are highlighted, examples of extralinguistic factors in speech are given and the system of their significance in interpreting is analyzed.

The article deals with the analysis of syntactic transformations used in translation of the novel “Collector” written by John Fowles (the translation was done by Anna Yanovska). The necessity of syntactic transformations in
literary translation is proved. The variability and frequency of syntactic transformations usage in translation are examined.

The article is devoted to the analysis of the science and technical literature translator’s potential in the context of combined disciplines “Technical Translation” and “Technical Communication”, based on D. Birn’s and K. Shubrt’s studies. Nowadays it has become obvious that science and technical translation’s obstacles are coursed not only by different structures and language rules involved in the process and perfection of requirements to the accuracy of translation that is to reflect the information in details but also by the specificity of the translation process itself that is of great importance. The most important role in this process is played by the creative potential of the translator, written translation being of primary importance. Clarity, accuracy and grammar, being principle stylistic goals of the written translation, coincide with the principle stylistic goals of technical translation. “Technical translator” acts as a “technical” writer.
