Key words: interrogative communicative semantics, grammatically non-interrogative sentences, interrogation, official academic correspondence, translation, Ukrainian, English, Chinese.

The article is devoted to the study of the interrogative communicative semantics of structurally non-interrogative sentences. Some possible means enabling the reproduction of interrogative communicative implementation while translating grammatically non-interrogative sentences (statements) from Ukrainian into English / Chinese within the context of official academic correspondence are analysed. The type of sentences which are structurally non-interrogative and imply interrogation against the background of general conflict-free diplomacy-oriented interaction is specified; some linguistic differentiating characteristics of translation within the language pairs “Ukrainian ↔ English” and “Ukrainian ↔ Chinese” are substantiated.

The article describes the phenomenon of phonological adaptation and establishes processes of adapting English loanwords at the phonological level in the systems of Ukrainian and Turkish consonants. A common process is substitution. In the Turkish language, in contrast to the Ukrainian one, there are phenomena of deletion and epenthsis. Also, in Turkish there can be more than one process of adaptation in the phonological segment, which requires several phonological changes.

Key words: legal discourse, linguistic features, translation operations.

The article is devoted to the study of linguistic features of Chinese legal discourse and its variant in English and Ukrainian. The work presents genre typologically common features of legal discourse based on non-closely related languages: Chinese, English, Ukrainian; specific linguistic characteristics of Chinese legal discourse are studied; translation operations of the text under analysis — the Criminal Code of the People’s Republic of China — are examined and the pecularities of its presentation in English and Ukrainian languages are read.

Key words: subjective modality, semantics, children’s literature, linguistic means.

Linguistic means actualizing deontical, alethical, axiological and epistemical modality in children’s literature are researched in the article. It’s been proved that linguistic means of modal semantics refer to the effective instruments influencing the evolutionary process of child’s cognitive development. This aim is reached by the following means used by the author: lexical and grammatical forms (nonstandard syntactic structures, attitudinal lexemes), phonetic forms (phrase intonation variability due to inversion and graphical means), stylistic figures exploitation (metaphors, epithets, comparisons) that present the functional field of subjective modality semantics.

The article is devoted to the analysis of grammatical difficulties encountered in the process of automatic translation. The paper discusses the advantages and disadvantages of the SDL Trados automatic translation service. The types of grammatical errors when translating scientific and technical texts in SDL Trados are classified, the ways of overcoming them are outlined.

The article deals with the problem of rendering the Chinese poetry ’shi’ in English and Ukrainian translation. Special attention is paid to the peculiarities of translating realia. The translation operations employed to render the semantics and pragmatics of the Chinese belles-lettres literature by means of typologically distant languages have also been analyzed.

The article is devoted to the study of the peculiarities of the translation of terminology on the material of the English business discourse into Ukrainian and Chinese. The study represents the main approach to the definitions of such concepts as “business discourse” and “translation operation” in current language- and translational studies; the linguistic features of business discourse are analyzed; the translation operations applied at the lexical-semantic and structural component levels when translating English terms of business discourse into Ukrainian and Chinese are analyzed; the choice of translation operations when translating the terms of English discourse as a method of achieving an adequate translation.

The article deals with the specifics of translating English political discourse into German in the communicative-functional and linguistic perspectives. The results of the paper discover strong correlation between the strategy of translation and the choice of corresponding tactics and operations. Translation techniques are caused by structural linguistic differences within the language pair.

The article deals with the all-sided study of the folklore discourse in current linguistics. The relevance of the institutional (subcultural) type of discourse distinctive features for folklore discourse is established and the complexity of the folklore discourse description is defined; the processes that characterize the folklore discourse have been revealed.
