SUMMARY

The article examines the linguistic and stylistic features of a new genre of literature — the mobile novel. It is noted that the development of communication technologies in the period of the end of the 20th and the beginning of the 21st centuries became the impetus for the emergence of hybrid forms that arose during the transition of classical genres to a new for them interactive environment and the development of new means of artistic expression based on modern telecommunication technologies, which include mobile novel. It was determined that the purely linguistic features of the texts of this genre include the use of abbreviations; colloquial, simplified and lapidary style; frequent omission of dramatic dialogues, which allows the reader to independently guess and interpret what they have read; the sharp unfolding of plots often keeps the reader in suspense and stimulates anticipation of the next part. The graphic stylistic devices of the mobile novel include the use of capitalization, phonetic repetitions (alliteration or assonance), the use of emoji, unconventional punctuation (the use of hyphens, infinity signs, exclamation marks in the middle of the sentence, etc.). During the experimental study, the linguistic stylistic features of the mobile novel “SecondHand Memories” by the English-speaking author of Japanese origin Takatsu were analyzed. In the process of research, the compositional structure, plot line, roles of the main characters, as well as linguistic stylistic phenomena of the three levels of language — phonographical, lexical and grammatical, and syntactic — were analyzed.

SUMMARY

Abstract: The purpose of this article is to identify and compare non-verbal means of communication in Ukrainian and Vietnamese traditions based on the film story «Poem about the Sea» by O. P. Dovzhenko and its translation into Vietnamese. The object of the research is linguistic units indicating non-verbal behavior in Ukrainian and Vietnamese traditions, as presented in this film and its Vietnamese translation. The subject of the research is the general and personal features of perception and the use of gestures, facial expressions, gaze, intonations, and other non-verbal means in the process of communication. Comparative, semantic, cognitive, linguistic, and cultural analyses, paraverbal analysis, and the descriptive method are applied. As a result, their pragmatic meanings were determined, signs of similarities and differences, features of translation, and correlations based on the level of equivalence in artistic works were identified. A number of equivalent, background, and non-equivalent means in Ukrainian and Vietnamese languages were revealed. Conclusions and prospects of the study. Non-verbal language reflects the national character and each nation can have its own characteristics. In the works of fiction, the translator and the editor tried to convey the non-verbal behavior of the characters in such a way that the equivalent situations and units that most adequately convey the behavior of people of another culture in the Vietnamese language prevailed. The linguistic realization of non-verbal means is described by means of verbal means such as verbs, nouns, adjectives and adverbs, and accompanied by epithets, metaphors, idioms and punctuation marks. Understanding the ethnocultural features of non-verbal language is necessary for an adequate understanding of Ukrainian-Vietnamese communication and for those who work on translations of literary texts from Ukrainian to Vietnamese and vice versa. SUMMARY

In this paper we threw light upon the concept of emotional phenomena, clarified the definition of “emotions”, reconstructed the emotional sphere and emotional experience of Swedish Queen Christina, outlined the corpus of lexical units of the Queen’s emotions through the prism of the morphological criterion and systematized thematically. The relationship between the development of the Queen’s emotions, wartime, spiritual crisis in the family circle and court behavior is traced. Emphasis is placed on the dominance of emotional patterns in the semantic structure of emotional experience, natural and artificial expressions of emotions by the Queen are identified. The most relevant emotional patterns include sadness — joy, joy — cunning, fear — hope, hope — faith, anger — disappointment — calm. It is established that the emotional experience of the “elite” layer affects the negation of the Queen’s individual emotions (pride, admiration), their identification, form and content. The expression of the Queen’s emotions is also connected with the internal and external politics of Sweden in the 17th century, the rules and norms of royal etiquette, which led to the elevation of Queen Christina to the status of a goddess. The juxtaposition of natural phenomena and emotions affected the hierarchy, signs of modality, gradation, semantics, negation, linguistics of emotions. The presence of a value system in the strata of the Swedish population allows predicting and simulating the influence of emotions on the behavior of the queen and, conversely, on the behavior of subordinates. The differentiation of emotional phenomena contributed to the birth of lexical and grammatical names. Two main partial language categories are distinguished: full and incomplete. The full-meaning part-speech category includes: verb, noun, adjective, adverb, pronoun, the incomplete part-speech category includes emotional exclamations and emotional particles. The adjective often undergoes functional reorientation and functions as an adverb in speech.

SUMMARY

The article is devoted to the analysis of verbal means of creating artistic space in modern fantasy literature. The issue of literary geography and mapping of the narrative text is considered on the example of the fourth part of the septology of Harry Potter adventures “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire” by JK Rowling. Special attention is paid to the means of transition from the magical world of the story to the muggle world of the main character. The verbal means of creating the artistic space of this narrative are also highlighted and analyzed based on the book material of the original text of the British author and the Ukrainian translation by V. Morozov and S. Andruhovych. The translation analysis of this work was carried out; extralinguistic and linguistic factors of the narrative about the little sorcerer are highlighted. A statistical analysis of selected verbal means of translation of the artistic space was carried out and translation operations were singled out. The toponymic names of the fantasy narrative were separately analyzed and the means of their translation from English to Ukrainian were highlighted. The results of the study show that Ukrainian translators chose the strategy of communicative-equivalent translation, which is the closest to the text, using adaptive means of translation. Thanks to this, the Ukrainian translation is considered one of the best translations for the Ukrainian recipient.

SUMMARY

In spite of many works in the field of phonetics some problems of typology still want systematisation both on segmental and suprasegmental levels. Experimental research is one of them. The research is aimed at determining phonetic typological characteristics in English and Ukrainian on segmental and suprasegmental levels. The results of the research demonstrate the significant amount of typologically similar characteristics in English and Ukrainian. The presence of fore lingual and back lingual vowels, plosives, fricatives, voiced and voiceless consonants, such phenomena as reduction and assimilation in both languages under investigation testify to it. Similar mechanisms of word stress production that is the total energy data (dynamic characteristics and duration time) is another mark of typological similarity of English and Ukrainian.

The intonation models, the degree of stability of intonation models, sentence stress variability, the same functions of intonation in the process of speech production show similar mechanisms of prosody elements’ interaction. The most stable in both languages are the prosodic models of attitudinal and emotional functions of intonation. The status of different functions (the attitudinal function, sense-group delimitation, sense-groups relation, communicative type of utterances, sentence stress) of intonation changes from the subordinate one (as in the function of division into sense groups) up to the dominating one (as in the function reflecting the speaker’s emotional state). In correspondence with this status and the poly-functional character of intonation the resulting intonation contour mainly preserves the relevant prosodic features of the dominating intonation function in English and Ukrainian.

The qualitative and quantitative differences of segmental (phonematic length of vowels in English, phonemic length of consonants in Ukrainian, some difference in articulation) and suprasegmental units (variety of melody contour structure, prevalence of dynamic characteristics in English and temporal in Ukrainian) in the languages under investigation are explained by linguacultural peculiarities of the communities, their historical development.

SUMMARY

The article is devoted to the analysis of synonyms of the concept «pandemic». A special attention is focused on defining of synonyms for the key lexeme of the concept «pandemic» on the basis of lexicographic sources. The study of any concept is carried out in accordance with its structural composition, which includes the description of conceptual, image and value components. The analysis of the conceptual component of the concept is conducted through the study of its direct nomination, definition, as well as by means of research of the synonyms of the key lexeme, the analysis of which contributes to the reproduction of additional conceptual features that are not represented in the key lexeme definitions.

The main lexical units with synonymous meanings for the name of the concept «pandemic» were identified. The definitional analysis of the synonymous lexemes is based on the lexicographical data obtained from generic and medical dictionaries. The study of medical terminology presented in the definitions of medical dictionaries enabled identification of the dominant semes for the key lexeme, which reveal additional conceptual features.

Based on the analysis of the definitions of lexemes of the synonymous rows of the concept «pandemic», the following additional conceptual features of the concept «pandemic» have been selected: presence of a disease caused by a virus, bacteria and other microorganisms and characterized by specific signs and symptoms; the severity of the disease; localization of the disease (body, mind); a sudden occurrence; pathogenic nature; high contagiousness; duration; seasonality; ways of transmission (airborne, contact, through blood, sexual, prenatal, wound, food); methods of diagnosis of the disease (collection of anamnesis for the study of the disease, its laboratory and radiographic findings); reduction, impairment of human vital functions.

SUMMARY

The article is devoted to one of the most archaic linguocultural code — the astronomical one, which reflects the ancient peoples’ statements about the world structure. In view of undying interest in linguocemiotic, ethnolinguistic and linguocultural studies, paying attention to linguistic reflection of the stable signs of
culture — concepts, symbols, stereotypes etc., in particular phraseological one, seems to be extremely relevant.

The purpose of the article is to investigate a fragment of Bulgarian phraseological picture of the world incide the astronomical linguocultural code, which reflects the concept of sky. The objects of the study are phraseological units of Bulgarian language, which verbally or non-verbally mirror the astronomical linguocultural code, delighting this concept; the subject is the linguocultural content of these phraseological units. The work uses both general scientific methods — induction, deduction, analysis, synthesis, comparison and proper linguistic ones, including descriptive method, method of linguocultural interpretation, and method of conceptual analysis. The scientific novelty of the study is due to the fact that in this work, for the first time in domestic linguistics, an attempt to analyze the presentation and content of the astronomical linguocultural code on the materials of Bulgarian phraseology, describe the semantic significance of one of the basic concepts, the concept of sky, was made. The theoretical and practical value consists in attracting attention of scientists to further linguosemiotic, ethnolinguistic researches based on phraseology of different languages, as well as in using of the obtained results in linguoculturology, ethnolinguistics, intercultural communication, phraseology, translation studies.

Based on the given data, the author concludes: the concept of sky is the most representative one, multifunctional symbol, which reflect the ancient ideas about the sky as a sacred cosmogonic category, opposed to the earth against the background of the archetipic opposition up — down, as well as the oppositions reachable — unreachable, ideal (spiritual) — material (practical). Phraseological models, according to which the symbol of sky is reproduced, are both universal and specific ones. The prospects for further research include the analysis of other astronomical linguocultural code concepts based on Bulgarian phraseology in comparison with phraseology of other Slavic languges.

SUMMARY

In the focus of the article there is the problem of hidden mythological semantics of lexical (more broadly — phraseological) units in the Slavic and Germanic (English) languages. Often the lack of proper attention to this problem leads to inaccurate, inappropriate, superficial translation or to incorrect assessment of certain fragments of folklore texts of various genres in their ethnolinguistic study. Being «erased» on the surface of linguistic consciousness, which in the course of evolution has developed new stereotypes, the structures of mythological thinking are often preserved at the level of lexical semantics and in the semantics of phraseological units.

The mythological plane of the semantics of linguistic units is an important level of such a complex object of linguistics as the linguistic picture of the world, since it largely determines the specificity and originality of linguistic thinking, while remaining implicit, hidden behind the everyday, habitual meaning.

On the example of microtexts (established figurative phrases) with two opposite ancient concepts «the moon» and «the sun», the commonality and difference in the mythological semantics of the units of the Slavic and English languages are shown. The relevant differential features of the Slavic and Germanic worldviews are emphasized.

SUMMARY

The paper is devoted to the consideration of semiotic load of the basic movement of the palms and mimic muscles at different ethnic cultures. Its task is to highlight kinesemes, which are typical for Eastern and Western traditions of nonverbal comunication (here is used data of non-verbal means, related to the movement of hands, palms and eyes) and characterize their communicative semantics as auxiliary means, which need to pay special attention of translators. Observation of Eastern and Western cultures of non-verbal comunication evidences commonality of many kinesemes for these cultural worlds, however semiotic load of equal movements at different cultures often does not coincide and even more demonstrates absolutely opposite comunicative meanings. Properly lingual equivalents of non-verbal means, particularly phraseologisms, sometime are able
to confirm all told. Hands (palms) and gaze of the interlocutor are the details, which catch the eye in establishing of visual contact and preliminary evaluation of the counterpart. Consequently ethnic semiotics of both sets of kinesems should be interpreted correctly and on time to provide high-quality translation.
