Key words: ethnopsycholinguistics, sociopsycholinguistics, ethnopsycholinguistic stereotypes, cross-cultural aspect of translation, strategies, tactics, translation operations.

The article is devoted to the problem of interdisciplinary nature, relevant for both ethno- and socio-psycholinguistics and translation studies due to the need for deeper study of the problem of reflection and correct rendering of national, cultural and linguistic features and characteristics in English translation into Ukrainian and vice versa. The study describes the features of language stereotypes in English-speaking culture in reproduction in Ukrainian translation, reveals the specifics of the phenomenon of communicative conflict and its reflection in translation, identifies a set of leading tactics and dominant translation operations in implementing a strategy of communicative-equivalent translation that is used to achieve optimal faithfulness and correctness in the studied pair of languages within ethnopsychospecific cross-cultural communication. Based on the results of the analysis of the peculiarities of language behavior in the situation of communicative conflict, a typology of ethnopsycholinguistic stereotypes has been developed. The article also provides a classification of levels of communicative competence, which is based on the ability of the language personality to cooperate in interpersonal communication. The results of the research can be useful in solving modern problems of intercultural communication in translation studies and serve as a powerful tool for optimizing translation, taking into account crosscultural differences in the English — Ukrainian language pair.

Key words: psycholinguistics,

persuasion strategy, beauty industry, translation strategies, tactics, devices.

The article is dedicated to the problem of the interdisciplinary character which is also urgent for psycholinguistics and translation studies. In the focus of the analysis there are linguistic means of representing persuasion strategy in English advertising texts in beauty-industry and the key translation strategies, tactics and devices. It has been concluded that the dominant ones are the strategy of re-addressing and of tertiary translation, while the most widely occurred tactics are the tactic of rendering relevant information, the tactic correct presentation and the tactic of linguistic and cultural adaptation. The analysis of the translation devices has revealed the predominance of such simple devices as transplantation, transcoding, different types of replacements (contextual replacement, concretization, functional replacement). On the level of complex translation transformations there has been resumed that the most widely used are descriptive translation, antonymous translation and the technique of semantic development. The research is perspective and its findings may be employed as a means of translation optimization in the field of beauty industry.

Key words: etymology, reconstruction, derivative, mythonym, demonology.

The paper deals with the etymological analysis of the name of mythological character Царь Хан, from the text of a Ukrainian spell for snake bites. A number of signs encourages to think about, that we deal with the result of division and rethinking of the etymological form *Кантысар, the trace of which is found out in archaic Ukrainian vocabulary of burial ritual. Particularly, here the Lord of Graves, which charges payment with dead for a place under the ground, is mentioned.
Further search of the etymological source of this word takes us up to the conclusion about reflection of Alanian *Kanti Sar «Lord of Graves» or «Lord of the Underworld» in the *Кантысар. With taking into account of word context and associated semiotics we can figure out in general terms semantics of character of the *Кантысар and place him on a par with other figures of Slavic demonology, also borrowed from the Iranian source. The adaptation of the stranger mythological figure to the charactersʼ system of Slavic mythology was possible due
to functional affinity the *Кантысар to indigenous chthonic personages, identified with the *Кантысар.

Сoncomitantly with etymology of the name Кантысар the genesis of an Ukrainian demonic name довгомýд ʻhalf-beast and half-manʼ is defined (< Alanian *dewaga-mand, *dewga-mand ʻobsessed with a daemonʼ).

Key words: the 20thcentury Ukrainian literature, prose, poetry, dramaturgy, criticism, emigration, Socialistic realism.

This article represents an analysis of the specifications of elucidating Ukrainian literary process in the first and second thirds of the 20th century, as shown by Professor Yuriy Kovaliv in his “History of Ukrainian Literature. The end of the 19th — the beginning of the 21st century” (sixth and seventh volumes out of 10 volumes planned). The significant textual material in Yu. Kovaliv’s interpretation may become not only a subject to diversely study at philological high schools, but also a powerful factor of scientific enquiries. Since being examined under nontrivial
angle and thereinafter described by precise academic language without any overusing of terms, it can serve a base to further researches of Ukrainian literature in the trend of fulfillment of so-called “whitespots” that were so peculiar for the period chosen.

Key words: journalistic style, media discourse, English-language news text, news discourse, OSCE, adequate translation of news texts, translation transformations.

The relevance of the research is based on the need for an in-depth study of effective ways, techniques and methods of translating English-language news texts into Ukrainian, in particular news texts of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), which is due not only to Ukraine’s membership in the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, but also to globalization and the intensive development of international relations, which in turn affect the increasing interest of modern Ukrainian readers in foreign news texts. In addition, the relevance of the topic is due to the increased attention of linguists to modern media discourse, which also includes news discourse, and the peculiarities of its translation. The aim of the work is to analyze the specifics of translating English-language news texts into Ukrainian based on the material of OSCE news texts. To achieve this goal, the following research methods were used: comparative and comparable methods for determining the features and problems of translating English-language news texts into Ukrainian; the method of systematization and the method of complex translation analysis for analyzing and systematizing the tools used in translating English-language news texts into Ukrainian, and also using the continuous sampling method to search for basic research materials. As a result of a comparative analysis of the original English-language news texts with their translations into Ukrainian, the regularities of applying specific translation strategy, as well as the corresponding translation transformations that are necessary to achieve an adequate translation of the English-language news text were determined. The study also analyzed the problem of finding an equivalent when translating news texts.

Key words: literary translation, readdressing translation strategy, translation tactics, operations, source text, target text.

Modern translation studies which are of descriptive nature mainly presuppose the opportunity of altering the function of the source text in translation, reconstruction of sense and structure in correspondence with the aim of translation. The investigation has been carried out in the framework of the communicativefunctional approach to translation which accounts for the entire spectrum of linguistic and extra linguistic factors influencing translation in the broad sense. This
fact proves the relevance of the article. The translations of both narrations intended for the children’s audience exclusively conform to the ideology of the children’s fiction aimed at socialization and attraction of young addressees. It results in the loss of the worldview reflection
by the originals and focusing on reproducing their fairy–tale plots. The applied readdressing translation strategy has been implemented by the following tactics: the tactic of relevant information rendering, the tactic of pragmatic adaptation of the source text, the tactic of stylistic features rendering, the tactic of the source text formal and structural features rendering.
Common operations for the applied tactics have proved to be as following: search for a variant equivalent, omission, restructuring and compensation. The compensation technique has turned out to be the most universal operation within the applied translation tactics. This fact can be explained by the complex nature of transformations the source text is subjected to, the need to omit, rearrange amounts of information and to preserve the chosen genre along with its daptation
for the potential addressee.

Key words: nonverbal communication, business discourse, speech etiquette, speech communication, proxemics, chronemics, kinesics, trasnlation strategies, tactics, devices.

The article is dedicated to the study of the non-verbal communicative means in the aspect of translation, in particular strategies, tactics and devices of rendering non-verbal elements of speech ethiquette while translating business discourse. The theoretical grounding for the article was formed by the works by Ukrainian and foreign scholars in the field of intercultural communication. In the course of the research there have been investigated the peculiarities of the structure, semantics and functioning of the non-verbal elements of speech ethiquette. It has been proved that the incorrect interpretation of gestures, poses, look, clothes by the representatives of
different cultures may result not only in the cultural and communicative barrier but also in the total failure. The research has been carried out on the basis of the scripts of business talks and conferences in English and their Ukrainian translations. It has been revealed that the dominant strategy in rendering non-verbal communicative means in translating English business discourse into Ukrainian is the strategy of re-addressing, relying on which the translator chooses translation
tactics and devices. The choice of the strategy is connected with the relevance of the achievement of the communicative goal of the audience’s persuasion in this type of discourse. The leading role among the tactics is given to the tactic of rendering relevant information, tactic of liguistic and cukltureal adaptation and tactic of correct information presentation. The most recurrent translation devices are descriptive translation and contextual replacement. The perspective is seen in the more detailed analysis of each variety of non-verbal communicative means in the aspect of their rendering in translation into other languages.

Key words. Folklore, fairy tale, Ukrainian folklore tale, translation, translation possibilities, reproduction of fairy tales, folklore elements, folklore genre.

Recently, more and more urgently we can note the increased interest in the problems and features of the translation of folklore text. The authors of works associated with each year appear, explore the features and certain difficulties of translating folklore genres and folk tales, in particular, the difficulties associated with reproducing the national cultural background in translation, the difficulties associated with maintaining a special form of existence, difficulties associated with the display folklore thinking, the difficulties associated with symbolic translation of a folklore text into the language of the text of the host tradition. Authors-translators of folklore most often face the problem of conveying words that can denote concepts inherent only in the original culture, traditions of the language. These words include words-dialectisms, words-archaisms, and, first of all, realities. All these units have a national and cultural background. The author-translator must take into account the genre and style features of the translated text, preserve not only the content, but also the emotional-style, colored background and make it accessible for the process of understanding native speakers, the text is translated. An adequate translation of folklore elements and realities of Ukrainian folk tales is of particular importance when working with a folk tale. The purpose of the article is to establish the peculiarities of the translation of Ukrainian realities and the revealed universal characteristics of the fairytale text, which can be used as a reserve of translation matches when reproducing the folklore elements of Ukrainian folk tales into English. The research used the following methods: analysis of special, network and methodological literature, synthesis and structuring of data obtained in theoretical analysis. The article examines the well-known realities of the Ukrainian folk tale and analyzes their English translation correspondences. In the course of the research, it was found that the fabulous color is one of the key features of the Ukrainian folk tale. Key words: author, language code, communication, recipient, scientific and technical text

The article discusses the features of the activities of an author and recipient at different stages of the communication process in the perception of a scientific text. Studies of the peculiar influence of the language code on the perception of information in the context of the communicative act of the author of the message and the recipient in the modern information society are among the most relevant nowadays.

Creation of a scientific and technical message and its publication are aimed at effective perception of information and achieving a certain linguistic influence of the author of the message on the consciousness of the recipient through the display of the peculiarities of the author's way of thinking.

The beginning of scientific communication is the need for certain information of recipients. The response to this need is the proposal of necessary information by the author. The information needs of the recipients form the subject matter and content of scientific and technical communication. The author of the scientific message chooses the most convenient way and channel for the transfer of information to the recipient, and the recipient searches for the necessary information in the most optimal way and channel.

The coding of the message usually corresponds to the coding of the informational need of the recipient. The context of the informational message for the author includes the main purpose of creating the message, and for the recipient, the satisfaction of the informational need. For the author, the text is a way of transmitting the message, and for the recipient, it is a source of
information.

The linguistic activity of the author is focused on the effective satisfaction of consumers’ information needs and on achieving a certain influence on the consciousness of the recipient. The main means of communication is the language of the message of scientific and technical orientation, which expresses its main content, semantic content, logical structure of the information component, which facilitates the process of decoding and assimilation of the message.

The structure of a scientific and technical text depends on the genre and target audience. The genre can be viewed as a way of influencing the recipient's consciousness.
