SUMMARY

The author’s considerations include elements of valuing Jan Grzesiak’s scientific
achievements in the field of didactic measurement and the related assessment
of student-student competence. Adopting the definition of knowledge as a
symbolic description of the surrounding real world, it was possible to analyze the
representation of knowledge understood as a combination of data structures and
interpretative procedures enabling intelligent behavior.
An important aspect of knowledge is learning and inference based on new
facts, and the accumulation of knowledge is not just its accumulation, the addition
of new facts. The author emphasizes the role and place of evaluation in
contemporary academic discourse, which Jan Grze-siak embraced with his research
and publications. Little space is devoted to introducing students to selfassessment
and assessment is also fetishized. This remark was reflected in the
final conclusions of the author of the article.
