SUMMARY
The purpose of the article is to analyze the materials collected in the Odesa Literary Museum regarding the stay in Odesa and the Northern Black Sea Region of authoritative Polish literary figures of the late 18th and 19th centuries, their assessments of the city and its inhabitants, and the role of Odesa in the life and work of these cultural figures. The object of study is part of the museum’s exposition and some rare materials from the museum’s collections, which relate to the life and work in Odesa of writers of the 19th century who left a noticeable mark on Polish literature and history. The subject of the study is the place and role of Odesa and the Northern Black Sea Region in the work of these writers. As a result of the conducted research, certain assessments were made of the participation of Adam Mickiewicz, Franciszek Malewski, Juliusz Słowacki, Alexander Jełowicki, Józef Kraszewski, as well as a number of other Polish writers, including Stanisław Trembecki, Henryk Rzewuski, Tadeusz Czacki, Zygmunt Miłkowski (Tomasz Jeż), Michał Grabowski, Seweryn Goszczyński, Bohdan Zaleski, Maurycy Gosławski, Gustaw Olizar, Tomasz Padurra, Henryk Sienkiewicz in the cultural and social life of the city of Odesa and the Odesa region. Some facts of the influence of their stay in Odessa on the work of these writers were revealed. Rare printed exhibits from the museum’s collection were indicated. The conclusions are drawn that the international business and resort Odesa has in some way influenced the life and work of many public and cultural figures of the Polish people, helping them to expand their knowledge in science, economics, history, and social life. The practice of developing literary local history has considerable educational value in the assessment by the residents of the region of its cultural and historical significance in the life of the country.
